Guilford College Athletics Updates

Guilford’s men’s basketball team won its first Old Dominion Athletic Conference Tournament Sunday afternoon with a 91-80 overtime win over Virginia Wesleyan College. Tournament Most Outstanding Player Ben Strong scored a game-high 28 points, 10 in overtime, and added a game-best 15 rebounds for his 21st double-double of the year. He was joined on the all-tournament team by Clay Henson (19 points) and Caleb Kimbrough (18 points). The win clinched the ODAC’s automatic bid to the 59-team NCAA Division III Tournament. Tourney selections and pairings will be announced Monday at 12 noon on a video web cast at NCAA.com.

The Quakers’ men’s lacrosse team fell in overtime Sunday to visiting Christopher Newport University, 12-11. Joe Dauksis paced the Quakers with a career-high three goals. Guilford’s women’s tennis team improved to 2-0 Sunday with an 8-1 road victory over North Carolina Wesleyan College. The Quakers took all three doubles matches and five of six singles contests. The Quakers’ men’s tennis team picked up its first win of 2008 and its first under head coach Eddie Luck Sunday with a 5-4 nonleague triumph at North Carolina Wesleyan College. Guilford’s baseball team dropped an 8-7 Old Dominion Athletic Conference contest at Lynchburg College Sunday.
