Guilford Women’s Lacrosse Final – Catholic 18, Guilford 8

CATHOLIC MOVES TO 3-0 WITH 18-8 WOMEN’S LACROSSE WIN AT GUILFORD

Greensboro, N.C. — Meghan Sabo scored four goals and an assist in Catholic University of America’s 18-8 nonconference lacrosse victory at Guilford College Tuesday afternoon. The Cardinals (3-0) outscored Guilford, 10-2, in the second half and scored on eight of 16 free-position shots.

Becky Borrell opened a closed a 4-0 Catholic spurt midway through the first half to turn a 3-2 Catholic deficit into a 6-3 Cardinals’ lead with 11:58 left in the period. The teams traded goals the rest of the way as Catholic took an 8-6 halftime advantage.

Marcy Cuneo netted all three of her goals during a decisive 9-0 Catholic outburst to start second-half play that effectively decided the game. Four of the goals came via free-position shots, including two by Lauren Sheils. Midway through the second half the heavens joined the outburst as the teams played through a driving rainstorm that featured occasional hail.

Cuneo added an assist to finish with four points on the day. Caitlin O’Neill, one of five Cardinals with two scores on the day, added a game-high seven ground balls and caused three turnovers.

Seniors Caryn Washington and Jordan Clodfelter paced Guilford with two goals apiece.

The Quakers return to action Thursday night versus Marymount University in Guilford’s first home lacrosse game under the newly installed Armfield Athletic Center lights.
