Greensboro, N.C. — Guilford College sophomore Peter Latimer (Markinch Fife, Scotland/Madras) won the Old Dominion Athletic Conference’s (ODAC) Golfer of the Week Award Monday. The award covers competition from Feb. 25-Mar. 2. Latimer also captured the Guilford Student-Athlete of the Week Award, presented by the school’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).

Latimer earned the ODAC Golfer of the Week prize for the second straight week and the third time this year. He was the individual medalist winner at the Pine Needles Intercollegiate, Feb. 25-26 shooting one-over-par total of 143 (71-72). The victory marked his second career college title. Guilford shot 601 for the tournament, 10 strokes behind winner Belmont Abbey College. Latimer leads the Quakers with a 73.93 average in 15 rounds. Latimer has four top-15 finishes in eight events this year.
Coach Jack Jensen’s Quakers are ranked seventh in the Feb. 22 Golf World/Nike Golf Division III Coaches’ Poll. The Quakers travel to Camp Lejeune, N.C. March 28-30 to compete in the Marine Federal Credit Union Intercollegiate.
The Student-Athlete of the Week Award is presented by Guilford’s SAAC, which is comprised of representatives from each of the school’s 16 varsity teams. The group meets regularly to discuss the state of Guilford Athletics and seeks to build community among the school’s student-athletes and non-student-athletes. Recent Guilford SAAC activities include a breast cancer awareness promotion, canned-food drives, volunteer assistance with the North Carolina Special Olympics and tutoring at New Garden Friends School.
