UNC got by pesky Virginia Tech and Clemson upset Duke on Saturday afternoon to advance to the Championship Game of the 55th Annual ACC Basketball Tournament.
Tyler Hansbrough hit a fadeaway baseline jumper with 0.8 seconds left to help North Carolina beat Virginia Tech 68-66. The Hokies played one of their best games of the season but in the end, the Tar Heels would not be denied.
In the afternoon’s second semifinal, Clemson defeated Duke 78-74 to reach the tournament championship game for the first time since 1962. Free throw shooting down the stretch made the difference for the Tigers.
Twice in the regular season, Clemson had UNC on the ropes only to see the Tar Heels pull out the victory. On Sunday afternoon, Clemson will get a third shot at the Tar Heels, this time with an opportunity to win their first ever ACC Tournament title.
