We had the update on Grimsley-Page(Whirlies win it 6-3) at last night’s early edition and today we’ll take a look back at the other games that were going on back on Tuesday.
Western Guilford remains unbeaten with the Hornets’ 14-4 win over Northern Guilford and WG is now the top in our area. WG stands at (6-0) while NG drops to (1-4) after the loss. Casey Jones got the win on the hill for WG and we’re still not sure if he is the grandson of Casey(Hoyt/Allan) Jones that used to coach at Western years ago but Casey got plenty of help from Macon Smith, Joe Turkson and Neen Marrero. Smith(HR, 3RBI’s), Turkson(HR, 2RBI’s), Marrero(3 doubles,5RBI’s) Western Guilford will be in the Graham Easter Tournament which gets started on Friday and the tourney will also include SEG.
Ragsdale stayed hot with a 10-5 victory over the Asheboro Blue Comets. The Tigers now stand at (8-1/4-0) and on Tuesday, Nate Cash had a hot bat with 3 doubles, 4RBI’s, and a 4-5 day at the plate. Cody Meyers, Billy Stone, Ben Fultz, and DeSean Anderson all had key hits on Tuesday for Ragsdale. Northwest Guilford got a strong effort from Logan Self their starting pitcher as Logan struck out 8 Black Bison batters in 5 innings of work and helped NWG get to (3-3) for the year. NWG got the conference win with solid hitting from Phillip Dickson 3-3 with an RBI and from Stephen Mekita who a two-run double. Northwest Guilford defeats High Point Central 13-3.
Southwest Guilford topped the WS Parkland Mustangs 6-1 behind 12 huge strikeouts from Blaine McCraw. McCraw ended up delivering a three-hitter and now SWG is (5-3) overall and (1-0) in the conference. For SWG, Jeremy Hall was 3-3 and Jeff Gilley was 2-2. Hall had an RBI and Gilley stole 3 bases. Jake Ozment had another big day for Southern Guilford and Robert Knight wasn’t far behind as SG stopped Eastern 11-9. SG improves to (4-5) while EG falls to (4-3) and this also leads me to believe that EG dropped that conference game to West Stokes last Friday because now EG is (0-2) conference and SG is (2-0). We mentioned Ozment 3-3 2RBI’s and Knight 2-4 RBI, but the big blow came off of the bat of Brent Young who hit a walk off, three-run homer to end it and win it for SG. Perez and Gardner were the leading hitters for EG.
Northeast Guilford pulled one out against Western Alamance, winning out over the Warriors 2-1. Evan Underhill and Davis Turner were the top Rams at the plate and Turner gets the win on the hill and Zach Moore comes on to claim the save. NEG moves to (5-4) and the Rams even their Triad 3-A conference mark at (2-2). Underhill went 2-2 and Turner 1-2 for NEG on the Ram hitting sheet.
