Wood, who collected the second ODAC Golfer of the Week prize of his career, finished tied for ninth in a pool of 80 golfers at the Marine Federal Credit Union Intercollegiate. He shot five over par with a total score of 219 in 54 holes. Wood’s ninth-place finish, which was first among all ODAC participants, helped Guilford to seventh place among 32 teams. The Quakers, who shot 895 for the tournament, placed fourth among Division III competitors and first among seven ODAC squads.

A 2006-07 Second Team All-ODAC selection, Wood has a 74.89 average in 18 rounds, which ranks fourth among the league leaders and second on the team. He also boasts three top-10 finishes in eight events this year.

Coach Jack Jensen’s Quakers are ranked seventh in the March 12 Golf World/Nike Golf Division III Coaches’ Poll. The Quakers travel to Stone Mountain, Ga. April 7-8 to compete in the Emory Spring Invitational.

The Student-Athlete of the Week Award is presented by Guilford’s SAAC, which is comprised of representatives from each of the school’s 16 varsity teams. The group meets regularly to discuss the state of Guilford Athletics and seeks to build community among the school’s student-athletes and non-student-athletes. Recent Guilford SAAC activities include a breast cancer awareness promotion, canned-food drives, volunteer assistance with the North Carolina Special Olympics and tutoring at New Garden Friends School.
