Guilford College Men’s Lacrosse Final – #7 Lynchburg 19, Guilford 1

LYNCHBURG, VA – Lynchburg College defeated Guilford College, 19-1, in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) men’s lacrosse action Saturday afternoon on Shellenberger Field. The Hornets, ranked seventh in this week’s United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) Division III Coaches’ Poll, improved to 8-2 with the win in their league opener.

Lynchburg led 2-0 after the first quarter but exploded for six goals in the second period for an 8-0 halftime lead. The Hornets were led by Stephen Weis (St. Louis, Mo./Christian Brothers), who tallied four goals and one assist. Pat Manders (Potomac, Md./Gonzaga), Kevin Donahue (Ipswich, Mass./Tabor Academy) and Tyler Tolson (Lutherville, Md./Loyola Blakefield) all had two scores while Michael Mundorf (Catonsville, Md./Mt. Saint Joseph) posted a goal and three assists. Dean Evans (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) found the back of the net once with two helpers. Jeff Schwartz (New City, N.Y./Tabor Academy) won seven-of nine-faceoffs while Norby King (Bryn Mawr, Pa./Cardinal O’Hara) won five-of-eight. Goalie Garrett Curran (Hull, Mass./Tabor Academy) stopped six shots in the net for the Hornets.

Tyler Zivic (Oak Hill, Va./Oakton) scored the lone Guilford (2-7, 0-2 ODAC) goal from a Gareth Fuller (University Park, Md./Queen Anne School) pass in the fourth quarter. Andrew Vigne (Concord, Mass./Middlesex) contributed with 15 saves for the Quakers.

Lynchburg outshot the Quakers, 51-12, and held a 42-22 advantage in ground balls. The Hornets also won 15-of-23 faceoffs, converted on 18-of-22 clears, and were successful on four-of-seven extra-man opportunities.

Lynchburg returns to the field on Wednesday (4/9) as the Hornets host Randolph-Macon College in ODAC action from Shellenberger Field at 7 p.m. Guilford hosts league-rival Hampden-Sydney College Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.
