The Babe is Back

Greensboro, N.C. – Offering yet another sign that the Greensboro Grasshoppers home opener is just around the corner, Miss Babe Ruth returned to NewBridge Bank Park from extended spring training Friday sporting a new slimmer look and ready-as-ever to get on the field for the 2008 season.

A crowd favorite in 2007, Babe kicks off her second season with the squad Monday when the Grasshoppers host Hickory in their home opener.

“Babe’s in the best shape of her life,” said Grasshoppers President and General Manager Donald Moore. “Having Babe back really puts the finishing touches what it is we try to do here; we’re about having fun at the baseball game for people of all ages and Babe really exemplifies the fun-loving spirit we try to bring to the park each night.”

After three and a half weeks away at spring training, Babe returned to the ‘Hoppers where she will deliver ball to the umpires, serve as a batgirl, run the bases and much more.

“This off-season Babe had a lot of time to reflect on what could make her better,” said Moore. “She’s been working with the teams’ instructors at spring training and we feel Babe’s in tip-top shape. Babe’s going to bring even more excitement to the park this season with a few new elements that she’s been able to add to her game.”

Fans can catch their first glimpse of Babe and the rest of the 2008 Grasshoppers Monday when they host their home-opener against the Hickory Crawdads at 7 p.m.
