Fayetteville, N.C. – Methodist University’s Landon Jordan and two relievers combined on a four-hit, 10-0 shutout of visiting Guilford College Thursday night. Jordan (3-0) retired 11 of the first 12 batters he faced before yielding to Alex Sholar in the eighth. Sholar threw a perfect eighth inning and Robert Kisiah tossed the ninth inning.
The host Monarchs struck for four runs in the first inning after Guilford starter Alex Pecevich (0-2) fanned the first two batters he faced. Billy Quinn delivered the big blow in the inning with a bases-clearing double that scored three. Quinn added an RBI ground out in the Monarchs’ four-run sixth inning that opened with a Guilford error, resulting in three unearned runs.
Quinn and Kenly Locklear paced the Monarchs’ 10-hit attack with two hits apiece. Quinn doubled twice for Methodist, which took advantage of nine walks by Guilford pitchers and three Guilford errors.
Guilford’s Joe John had two of the Quakers’ four hits, including a double.
The Quakers try to end a three-game losing skid Saturday (4/12) in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) twinbill at Virginia Wesleyan College.
