Guilord College Women’s Lacrosse Final – #6 Washington and Lee 16, Guilford 6

LEXINGTON, Va.— Junior attacker Colleen Evans (Lexington, Va./Rockbridge County) notched a career-high five goals and one assist to lead the sixth-ranked Washington and Lee women’s lacrosse team to a 16-6 victory over Guilford on Saturday afternoon at Watt Field.

The Generals (13-1, 6-0) tallied the first three goals of the game to take a 3-0 lead at 23:03 before Guilford got on board at 21:49 (3-1) when senior attacker Caryn Washington (Baltimore, Md./Park) scored unassisted. W&L then used a four-goal spurt, including a pair of scores from Evans to take a 7-1 advantage at 13:48. However, the Quakers answered back with two tallies, one from sophomore midfielder Carrie Ernst (Randolph, N.J./Randolph) and another from Washington to cut it to a 7-3 game at 6:56. The Generals closed out the half with goals from Evans and senior attacker Laura Henson (Atlanta, Ga./Westminister) to take a 9-3 advantage at the break.

Both teams began the second half with two goals to make it an 11-5 game at 23:48 and the Generals out-scored the Quakers 5-1 the rest of the way to pull away for the 10-goal victory.

Evans scoring was supplemented by Henson, who notched three goals and two assists. Senior midfielder Megan Slosson (Cockeysville, Md./Maryvale Prep) chipped in three goals and sophomore attacker Britten Mathews (Richmond, Va./Collegiate) added one goal and two assists. Senior goalkeeper Sarah Tilbor (West Simsbury, Conn./Simsbury) played the entire contest in between the pipes and stopped 11 shots.

Guilford (7-5, 3-2) was paced by senior attacker Jordan Clodfelter’s (Adamant, Vt./Union-32) two goals and two assists. Washington also chipped in two goals and sophomore goalkeeper Alyzza-May Callahan (Fairhaven, Mass./New Bedford) played all 60:00 and registered 15 saves.

The Generals return to ODAC-action on Tuesday as they host Lynchburg for a 4:00 pm game. The Quakers visit league-rival Bridgewater College Sunday (4/13) at 2:00 p.m.
