Cook, Gill, Dimock, Newman, Peguese, Edwards, Celtics…..

Amber Cook the point guard for the Grimsley girls basketball team signed with UMES today. That’s the University of Maryland Eastern Shore and she got the full ride, I saw the signed contract and I read it very closely and it covers everything, it’s the full ride. She is the fifth member of the senior class from coach Phil Weaver’s team to sign with a DI school and she will do well. Amber said that the UMES was something like 12-20 last season and she is projected to play point guard and the #2 guard for her new school. We will have full video of the signing coming up later tonight courtesy of Greensborosports.com. Coach Weaver said today to watch for more honors to be coming up soon for two of his seniors and they should be active on the summer circuit.

Jasmine Gill from Page HS still plans to attend Boston College on scholarship even though the Eagles will have a new coach next season. I spoke to Jasmine’s mom this week and she told me that Jasmine will head up to Boston this summer to get ready for the upcoming basketball season.

Michael Dimock and Wesleyan Academy are still winning and after yesterday’s 9-0 win the Trojans are moving on and up in the state independent school baseball playoffs.

Will Newman(Page HS junior) was named the Metro 4-A Conference Offensive Player of the Year in Lacrosse this week. I talked to his dad Lewis Newman today and he said Will is the best Lacrosse player to ever come out of the Newman household and that’s all his dad can say right now. We will say it here again, Duke is very interested in Will for Lacrosse. Page has a great team with Will, Boo Hook, and the Hardy kid and they are destined for major success before Will gets out of high school. Will Newman will be one of the top football recruits in our area next fall along with Ricky Lewis Jr. of Dudley at QB.

Brandon Peguese from Grimsley and formerly of the South Florida Bulls football team is now at Hampton Institute up in Hampton, Virginia. South Florida wanted Peguese to play defensive tackle but he wants to stand up and play defensive end or linebacker. Here’s the South Florida bio on Peguese from his high school days at Grimsley, he’s 6’1/241:
A first team all-state player at defensive end as named by NCPreps.com….Had 17.5 sacks in his senior year for a defense that led the way to a 14-2 record and a Class 4A state finals appearance…Had 98 tackles…Two-year starter and a three-year letterman…Played in North Carolina’s East-West All-Star Game for the West…Ran a 4.6 40-yard dash and 11.8 100-meter dash in summer combine.

Jamaal Edwards who was at Dudley HS and was teammates with DeMario Pressley who went to N.C. State, Edwards is transferring out of Florida State with only one year of eligibility remaining. He will probably head right to a DI-AA school where he can play right away. Things never worked out for the runningback Edwards at Florida State.

Doug Cockman says the Boston Celtics will beat LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers tonight 103-94 and that James will go up in flames when the Celtics get back to Boston.

  1. Speaking of Lacrosse, since coverage has been non existant in the N&R, is Page still alive in the playoffs?

  2. According to Lewis Newman, Page is still alive and sticking in the playoffs…..

  3. thnx Andy.

Can you post up who they play, when, and where? Also, what round of the playoffs? Pretty ridiculous that there is no coverage in the local paper.
