Curry, Petersen Carry Hoppers With Combined 8-for-12 Performance

GREENSBORO – Manager Edwin Rodriguez described Sunday’s game as “ugly”; he was just happy the Hoppers were on the positive end of the 15-6 rout.

Greensboro’s first three batters combined to go 11-for-17 on the night and drove in eight of the Hoppers’ 15 runs. Ryan Curry and Bryan Petersen each had 4-for-6 performances as Petersen extended his league-leading hit streak to 15 games.

The Hoppers also saw their home run streak reach 14 games as Curry, Ozzie Martinez and Hunter Mense all homered in the contest.

The difference in the game was the sixth inning in which the Hoppers scored 10 runs. Greensboro’s 10 runs in the inning were the most by the Hoppers this season and pushed the team to a 14-3 advantage.

Greensboro ended the inning with 10 run on eight hits and were aided by two Kannapolis errors.

Jay Voss picked up his second consecutive victory after throwing five innings and giving up one run to the Intimidators in the first inning; he struck out four and improved to 2-3 on the season.

The 15 runs for Greensboro were the most by a Hoppers squad since they defeated Kannapolis at home on June 9 of last season by a score of 18-6.

Greensboro returns to action Monday as the Hoppers host Lexington in a three-game series at NewBridge Bank Park. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
