DREW WEAVER TO PLAY IN 2008 WYNDAM CHAMPIONSHIP…..

2007 British Amateur Champion Accepts Sponsor’s Exemption

GREENSBORO, N.C. – High Point, N.C. native Drew Weaver, the 2007 British Amateur Champion, has accepted a sponsor’s exemption and will play in the 2008 Wyndham Championship, it was announced today. The tournament is set for Aug. 11-17, 2008 at Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, N.C.

The Wyndham Championship extended an invitation to Weaver last year following his British Amateur victory, but Weaver was unable to play because of his schedule in the United States Amateur at Olympic Golf Club in San Francisco. This year, with the United States Amateur set for Pinehurst No. 2 the week after the Wyndham Championship, Weaver was able to play at Sedgefield and still fulfill his United States Amateur obligations.

“Drew is a real credit to the game of golf and to the entire Triad,” tournament director Mark Brazil said. “His game speaks for itself, but he’s a better person than he is golfer, which is saying a lot. We thought this would be a perfect way for Drew to play in front of his hometown fans, since so many of us were not able to follow him at Augusta or the British Open. We are honored and excited that Drew has accepted our invitation to play in the Wyndham Championship and look forward to hosting him at Sedgefield.”

Since winning the British Amateur, Weaver played in last year’s British Open followed by The Masters in April and The Memorial at Muirfield Village Country Club in Columbus, Ohio in May; he will also play in next month’s AT&T National at Congressional Country Club in Washington.

The Wyndham Championship has a total of eight sponsor’s exemptions; the remaining seven will be filled closer to the tournament in August.
