Harrington and GOLF are the winners at The Open Championship…..

‏The first “Tigerless” major concluded yesterday with Padraig Harrington shooting a final round 69, which included a 32 on the back nine to seal the deal for the Irishman, giving him back to back wins at The Open.

The first two days the weather was the story, with rain and gale force winds dominating the best players in the world. Ah, but there was a shark just under the wind and the rain-53 year old honeymooner-Greg Norman, who took a two shot lead into round two. In his heyday, Norman was sort of like a combination of Tiger and Arnold, as far a abilty and flair goes. He was the number one ranked player in the world back in the day and a part time player now. Greg had the golf world buzzing with the possibility of smashing the record for a major championshiop winner at his age. It was not to be. Opening with three straight bogeys to start the fianl round shot Norman back to the field, along with Harrington’s gem of a final round.

Golf was a big deal this weekend, although th T.V. ratings will most likely reflect Tiger’s vacancy. Each week a story will develop around each tournament. Now, if we can just give Greg and Chris directions to Greensboro to help develop the return of PGA golf to Sedgefield……..now that would be a story! There’s nothing like a long honeymoon-Norman said he was on his honeymoon. The Wyndahm’s first round is August 14th., concluding August 18th. at Sedgefield Country Club.
