Greensboro Bison win 15 and Under Black Baseball World Series…..

JB Baynes and his Greensboro Bison gave Greensboro it’s second World Series title on the same day as they won the 15 and Under Black Baseball World Series on Sunday down in Columbia, South Carolina.

The World Series win by the Bison came after the Greensboro 12 and Under team won their World Series title earlier in the day on Sunday in S.C. This could become the biggest summer in Greensboro Amateur baseball history if our Greensboro Green Colt team goes on to win the Colt World Series in Lafayette, Indiana and if our Proehlific Power squad moves on to California and wins the Palomino World Series.

The Greensboro Bison whipped Detroit 13-0 to lay claim to the 15 and Under World Series title on Sunday. Leon Smith was the winning pitcher for the Bison in the Championship game and Leon also went 3-3 at the plate. Smith was 2-0 on the mound in the tournament. Catcher Jamie Seagraves played great defensively throughout the Series for Coach Baynes and Chris Harrison was credited with the Outstanding Performance of the Series.

Top hitters for the Bison included Chris Harrison who went 2-3 in the Championship game and he was somewhere in the neighborhood of 7-10 for the Series. Tiger Miller played some of the best baseball of his life at third base for Coach JB Baynes and Tiger was 1-3 in the title game and hit for over a .400 average for the Series. Jamal Lewis hit .400 plus for the Bison and Daurius Mims smacked a big home run to pace the Bison in the power hitting department. Other leading hitters for the Bison were Johnny Brown, Chris Hutchinson, and Aron Jones(Jones hit a key inside-the-park home run). Keith Robertson was noted for his all-around solid effort in the tournament.

Great Job by the Greensboro Bison in winning the 15 and Under Black Baseball World Series on Sunday and excellent work by Coach JB Baynes in leading these young men to the Championship.

Here’s hoping that Coach Derrick Johnson, Coach Reggie Tatum, and Coach Baynes can land the World Series and bring it to Greensboro in 2009.
