GUILFORD TABBED FIFTH IN PRESEASON ODAC FOOTBALL POLL

Salem, Va. — Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) head football coaches tabbed Guilford College fifth in their annual preseason poll announced Friday at the league’s annual media day at the Salem Civic Center. Defending league champion Hampden-Sydney College earned five of seven first-place votes and the top spot in the poll. Randolph-Macon College picked up the remaining first-place votes and the ranking’s second place. Bridgewater College edged Washington and Lee University by one point for third place.

Guilford head coach Kevin Kiesel returns 13 starters among 57 letter winners returning from last year’s 6-4 club (2-4 ODAC). The Quakers have led NCAA Division III in passing yards per game and posted a winning record in both of the past two seasons.

Senior quarterback Josh Vogelbach (Fort Myers, Fla./Bishop Verot (East Carolina)) enters his fourth season as the Quakers’ starter 2,702 yards and 45 touchdowns shy of the Division III career records.

Guilford, which reports to preseason camp today, opens its 102nd football season Sept. 6 versus visiting Greensboro College in the 12th annual Gate City Soup Bowl. The contest marks the first Soup Bowl played under the Armfield Athletic Center lights.
