Hoppers’ Langley hits for the Cycle in Tuesday’s 9-4 Victory

Hoppers Ride Langley’s Cycle to 9-4 Victory
Greensboro Backstop Leaps into Hoppers Record Books with Franchise’s First Cycle

Hickory, N.C. – He got arguably the toughest part out of the way with a triple in the second inning.

A single, double and home run later and Torre Langley not only led Greensboro to its third consecutive victory, 9-4, but also etched his name in history by becoming the first Grasshopper to hit for the cycle in the teams’ four-year history.

Langley used his first four at-bats to get into record books before Hickory was finally able to get him to ground out in the ninth inning. His 4-hit performance also raised his average from .198 to .211.

But he wasn’t the only one knocking the ball around the park as the Hoppers finished with 15 hits including four doubles along with Langley’s triple and home run.

For the second consecutive night five Greensboro batters finished the contest with more than one hit. Ryan Curry, Mike Stanton, Hunter Mense and Justin Jacobs each had two hits to accompany Langley’s career-best four-hit performance.

Behind Greensboro’s solid offensive performance, starter Bryan Evans returned to the win column after tossing five inning in which he allowed four runs on nine hits. Evans did not walk any batters but he did surrender two home runs.

Along with being the first cycle in Hoppers history, Langley’s performance marked the first time since 2001 that a Greensboro professional baseball player has hit for the cycle. The Bats’ Jason Grove last accomplished the feat with a 4-for-5 performance against Delmarva on Aug. 7, 2001.

The win, Greensboro third straight, ensures at least a series split with the Crawdads and a victory on either Wednesday or Thursday would give the Hoppers just their third series victory of the second half.
