NewBridge Bank Football Jamboree this Weekend

Tenth Annual NewBridge Bank Football Jamboree To Be Held this Weekend

Cheer Competition on Friday and Football Scrimmages on Saturday will raise money for participating high schools

Greensboro, N.C. – This weekend, as part of its ongoing commitment to the local communities it serves, NewBridge Bank will kick-off its tenth annual Football Jamboree — a popular and successful fund-raising event originally begun by FNB Southeast, which merged last year with LSB Bancshares to form NewBridge Bank.

This year’s Jamboree features 16 Piedmont Triad high schools (listed below) in a premier Cheer Competition and exciting preseason football scrimmages. Tickets to each event are $4 in advance and $5 at the gate, with all proceeds going directly to the participating high schools’ athletics departments.

The Cheer Competition begins at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, August 15 at NewBridge Bank Park in downtown Greensboro. Angie Ward, daytime radio personality for 104.1 WTQR, will emcee the event. Alayne Rusnak, head coach of the Duke University Cheerleaders and Dancing Devils, along with three members of her cheer and dance teams, will judge the competition – and the Duke Blue Devil mascot will be on hand to entertain the fans.

“Athletics develop a fire in students, one that they carry with them for the rest of their lives,” said Rusnak. “We love to participate in events like the NewBridge Bank Cheer Competition because it supports student-athletes and encourages them to achieve something that’s very positive.”

Additional highlights will include a half-time performance by the North Carolina based Bouncing Bulldogs rope skipping demonstration team, which will be performing for the first time since entertaining the world at the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics. A spectacular fireworks show will also precede the awards ceremony. The winning cheer team will receive the champion’s trophy and a $1,500 donation to the school’s athletics department.

On Saturday, August 16, the football scrimmages featuring 16 area high school teams will kick-off in two locations. The Eastern Triad Football Jamboree will begin at 12:00 noon at Rockingham County High School in Reidsville (gates open at 10:00 a.m.). The Western Triad Football Jamboree will be held at 6:00 p.m. at West Davidson High School in Lexington (gates open at 4:30 p.m.).

“Our fund-raising target for this year’s Jamboree is $50,000,” said Robin Hager, Executive Vice President and Chief Resources Officer for NewBridge Bank. “And with this year’s event being expanded to 16 high schools, the additional interest being generated will hopefully allow us to meet that goal. This is a great way for families across the Triad to enjoy a fun weekend, root for their favorite teams, and support a very worthy cause.”

Those interested in attending the NewBridge Bank Football Jamboree may purchase tickets at participating NewBridge Bank offices for $4 in advance. Tickets may also be purchased the day of the event for $5. For additional information please visit www.footballjamboreefund.com.
