Can anybody top these Picks?

I was 8-3 on the HS picks last week and it could have been much better for me record-wise if High Point Central didn’t pull off that overtime win against Glenn and Northern goes on the road and grabs an upset win over Victory Christian. You have to be happy to see the Guilford County teams get wins, but it sure gives my picks record a kick in the rear.

There will be more major matchups coming your way this Friday with Southeast Guilford at Eastern Guilford to be one of the best games on the table with EG going to SEG and knocking off the Falcons last season. This will be game one for SEG and game #2 for EG, the Wildcats already have a win, after thrashing Rockingham County last Friday night.

Dudley at Richmond County will be huge and for the second straight week, the Dudley Panthers have an opponent that will give them a test, and the crowd down at Rockingham off of Highway 220 South, comes out in the thousands to support their Richmond County Raiders team.

Page at Northeat Guilford will also be an contest to keep and eye and ear on as the NEG Rams get going in their first game of the season and the Page Pirates will be in action for the first time since the tragedy at WS Reynolds last Friday night.

Northern Guilford faces Eastern Randolph with a chance for the NG Nighthawks to begin their varsity careers at 2-0.

Grimsley, coming off of that 49-7 win over Martinsville up in Virginia this past Saturday, will be back in action quickly as they host Northern Durham at Jamieson Stadium this Thursday.

One our readers, Damon, was looking for a game to attend last Friday night and he was not disappointed when I recommended the WS Carver at Dudley game:
I took Andy’s advice and got out to Dudley game. The atmosphere was great and the place was packed. I must say that I was impressed with Dudley’s Defensive and Offensive lines. The News & Record had it right. They are definitely this teams’ strength. The 20 -13 score is misleading. This game wasn’t even close. Dudley’s defense held Carver’s offense in check all night long. Carver broke two big plays for touchdowns. With better tackling from Dudley’s secondary, the game is a shut out.

Other than Dudley’s lines, I was impressed with Dudley’s running back, Fred Overby. The kid runs hard and has a nose for the end zone. Dudley’s Senior QB definitely looks like a leader out there. He ran the offense well and looked comfortable. I do think the verdict is still out on the Panther secondary. It’s tough to tell how good these kids are because Carver’s QB wasn’t that accurate and the Panther D-line was dominate. Dudley looks good, but they have work to do in order to defend that State Title.
