Guilford Volleyball Tabbed Ninth in Preseason ODAC Poll

Greensboro, N.C. — Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) volleyball coaches picked Guilford College ninth in the league’s preseason poll Wednesday. Washington and Lee University, the defending ODAC champion, topped the 11-team poll with nine first-place votes.

Third-year head coach Emily Gann leads a squad that features five returning letter winners from last year’s 7-20 unit plus eight newcomers. Sophomore Anna Miller (Greensboro, N.C./Boulder (Colo.), who led the team in kills (257), service aces (38), and points (301), is the Quakers’ top returning hitter. Miller also ranked second on the team in digs (272) and digs per game (2.82) and received honorable mention All-ODAC honors. Junior Bethany Hawks (Snow Camp, N.C./Southern Alamance) is Guilford’s lone three-year letter winner and ranked second on the team last season in service aces (31) and serve receive percentage (.880). She is the squad’s starting libero.

The Quakers begin their regular season today against University of Mary Washington and Mary Baldwin College in the opening day of the Eastern Mennonite University Invitational. Guilford’s first home match is Sept. 3 at 7:00 p.m. versus Peace College in the Ragan-Brown Field House.
