Guilford College Women’s Soccer Final – Salisbury 1, Guilford 0

Lynchburg, Va. (9/7/08) – Brenna Stuhler scored in the 75th minute to give Salisbury University a 1-0 women’s soccer win over Guilford College Saturday afternoon. The contest was part of the opening round of the Shellenberger Classic at Lynchburg College.

The Seagulls (2-1) outshot Guilford in the first half, 10-4, but senior Amber Stapler made six of her game-high nine saves in the first 45 minutes to keep Salisbury off the board. Stuhler broke the scoreless tie with just over 15 minutes in regulation when she converted a Sarah Jessilonis feed.

Guilford managed seven shots in the match, but could not solve Seagulls’ netminder Gena Goodson, who finished with four saves for the shutout.

Guilford returns to action Sunday morning at 10:00 against Sewanee in its second and final game of the tournament.
