College Men’s Soccer Final – Guilford 4, Bridgewater 3

BRIDGEWATER, Va. (10-3-08) – Guilford College rallied for a 4-3 men’s soccer win at Bridgewater College Saturday. The Quakers (2-7-1, 2-2-1 ODAC) scored four straight goals in the middle of the match to offset the Eagles’ Chris Thomas’ hat trick.

Thomas scored twice in the first 19 minutes to give Bridgewater (4-5-3, 0-2-2 ODAC) an early lead. The Quakers’ Jordan Alexander converted a Scott Meguid feed in the 27th minute and Tim Berke scored his first goal of the year two and a half minutes later to tie the game at 2-2.

Dan Etter scored the go-ahead goal at 61:48 off a Hugh Griffis assist. Sam Huff netted what proved to be the game-winner just over three minutes later.

Bridgewater’s Thomas concluded the scoring in the 89th minute with his third goal of the game and his 10th goal of the year.

Guilford goalie Peter Truitt made six saves in goal. Zane Lineberry had three stops for the Eagles. Both teams had 13 shots.

The Quakers host Averett in a nonconference match Tuesday (10/7) at 4:00 p.m.
