The Coach’s Corner with Ken Helms of HPC

Coach Ken Helms coaches football, basketball and baseball at High Point Central and here’s a new installment from the Coach’s Corner:

Page took a big step toward establishing themselves as the clear favorite in the Metro last week. The irony is that they did it while picking up their third loss in as many games. The Pirates came up short in a shootout with Davie, but scored a bunch of points doing it. After roaring to a big lead in the first half the Pirates were stymied in the second, but did enough to force overtime, where a botched extra point was the death knell. Still, they are explosive.

Smith showed signs of life, Northwest and Central were idle, and East lost to a tough West Forsyth team.

What a tragedy at Southern. All of us that have been in education and involved in athletics know how the death of young student devastates the entire student body. At times like these we realize the true benefit of being a part of a team, as all band together to support each other. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Southern Guilford family.
