Guilford College’s D’Orsaneo Lands Weekly Honors

Greensboro, N.C. — Guilford College’s Jackie D’Orsaneo (Bowie, Md./Bowie (Anne Arundel C.C)) won her first Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Women’s Soccer Player of the Week Award Monday. She also she also won her second Guilford Student-Athlete of the Week Award, which is presented by Guilford’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).

D’Orsaneo, a sophomore forward in her first Guilford season, received the honors after scoring 14 points in Guilford’s 2-1 week. She tallied a career-high eight points on three goals and two assists in the Quakers’ 6-0 shutout of Randolph College October 15. Her eight points marked Guilford’s highest single-game scoring output since 2003 when Jennifer Mundy scored eight points against Emory and Henry College. Two days later at Sweet Briar College, D’Orsaneo had two goals and an assist to help the Quakers to a 5-0 victory. She also had an assist in the Oct. 19 game versus 20th-ranked Virginia Wesleyan College.

D’Orsaneo has 24 points on the season on eight goals and eight assists, all team highs. She leads the ODAC with 71 shots, stands third among the league in assists and ninth in points.

Coach Eric Lewis’ Quakers (7-9, 5-3 ODAC) have won five of their last seven matches, including four shutouts. Guilford hosts Roanoke College this Wednesday (10/22) on the Quakers’ Senior Day.

The Student-Athlete of the Week Award is presented by Guilford’s SAAC, which is comprised of representatives from each of the school’s 16 varsity teams. The group meets regularly to discuss the state of Guilford Athletics and seeks to build community among the school’s student-athletes and non-student-athletes. Recent Guilford SAAC activities include a breast cancer awareness promotion, canned-food drives, volunteer assistance with the North Carolina Special Olympics and tutoring at New Garden Friends School.
