Greensboro, N.C. — Guilford College freshman Jeff Boyan (High Point, N.C./Ledford) won the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Golfer of the Week Award and Guilford’s Student-Athlete of the Week Award Monday. The student-athlete of the week prize is presented by the Quakers’ Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).

Boyan placed third among 73 competitors at the Tom and Bettie O’Briant Memorial Oct. 27-28 at The Cardinal Golf and Country Club. He had the low score among 22 ODAC contestants had Guilford’s best showing with a 10-over-par 150 (74-76) over 36 holes. His career-low 36-hole score helped the Quakers take third among 14 teams. He had Guilford’s low score on both days of the tournament. Boyan’s stroke average of 76.75 in 12 rounds ranks fifth on the team.
The Tom and Bettie O’Briant Memorial marked Guilford’s fourth top-three finish in as many tournaments. Coach Jack Jensen’s club is ranked sixth in the Oct. 15th Golf World/Nike Golf Division III Coaches’ Poll. The Quakers play again Feb. 23-24 at the Pine Needles Intercollegiate.
The Student-Athlete of the Week Award is presented by Guilford’s SAAC, which is comprised of representatives from each of the school’s 16 varsity teams. The group meets regularly to discuss the state of Guilford Athletics and seeks to build community among the school’s student-athletes and non-student-athletes. Recent Guilford SAAC activities include a breast cancer awareness promotion, canned-food drives, volunteer assistance with the North Carolina Special Olympics and tutoring at New Garden Friends School.
