2009 ACC WOMEN’S TOURNAMENT TICKET BOOKS ARE NOW ON SALE

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Ticket books for the 2009 ACC Women’s Basketball Tournament, to be held March 6-9 at the Greensboro Coliseum, are now on sale.

Ticket books are $99 each and include tickets for all eight sessions of the four-day tournament, while individual session tickets will go on sale at a later date.

The 2009 ACC Women’s Tournament will mark the 10th consecutive year the Coliseum has played host. In 2008, the Tournament set an overall attendance record of 72,114 and welcomed an all-time single-session record of 12,969 fans, including more than 10,000 enthusiastic students, representing over 40 Guilford County schools and nine surrounding counties to the event.

The upcoming 2009 Tournament could very well be the ACC’s most competitive tournament yet,” said ACC Associate Commissioner Nora Lynn Finch. “I am extremely appreciative of the City of Greensboro, the Greensboro Convention of Visitors Bureau, the Tournament Host Committee and the Greensboro Coliseum for their support over the last 10 years and challenge everyone to get their tickets early for another great year of women’s basketball.”

Ticket books to this year’s ACC Women’s Basketball Tournament may be purchased at www.ticketmaster.com, via Ticketmaster’s Charge-By-Phone Network at 336-852-1100 in Greensboro and 336-722-6400 in Winston-Salem, and at the Coliseum advance box office. Tickets are also available through each ACC institution’s ticket office.

The ACC features five of the top 25 women’s basketball teams in the country and boasts three programs in the top 10.  Sports Illustrated All-American and three-time All-ACC pick Marissa Coleman and All-American and Nancy Lieberman Award winner Kristi Toliver highlight three returning starters for third-ranked Maryland. Picked to finish second in the ACC by a vote of the selected Blue Ribbon Panel, the Terrapins finished 33-4 overall and 13-1 in league action last year.

Sixth-ranked North Carolina returns three starters and 10 letterwinners from last year squad that finished 33-3, becoming just the fifth program in NCAA history to win at least 30 games in four or more consecutive seasons. Returning starters Rashanda McCants, Cetera DeGraffenreid and Heather Claytor give the Tar Heels a great deal of experience and talent coming into the season.

To wrap up the ACC’s top 10 squads, the eighth-ranked Blue Devils return four starters off last year’s NCAA Sweet 16 team in addition to second-year head coach Joanne P. McCallie. Duke also returns 85.5 percent of the team’s scoring, 91.2 percent of its rebounding and 73.7 percent of its assists from a year ago.
