THE GRASSHOPPERS ARE GOING TO THE DOGS!‏

Grasshoppers designate Red Dog Farm as next charitable beneficiary

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Grasshoppers announced Thursday, November 6 that the team will support Red Dog Farm, a local animal rescue organization, as their official 2009 charity.

To raise money, each Grasshoppers front office member will donate $5 a week to participate in “Jeans Friday” throughout the baseball off-season. The team also will fundraise through events like holiday gift-wrapping and the annual Hoppin’ Fun Yard Sale.

“The Grasshoppers are strongly committed to helping charitable organizations in our community,” said Grasshoppers President and General Manager Donald Moore. “This year we are excited to partner with Red Dog Farm. They do a wonderful job of finding new homes for all kinds of abandoned animals and we hope our involvement with them assists in their efforts.”

To kick things off, the Grasshoppers Labrador mascot Miss Babe Ruth will appear in “Dogs on the Catwalk” on Saturday, November 8, at 7 p.m., at Triad Stage to benefit the Red Dog Farm Animal Rescue Network.

The event will feature a canine fashion show, silent auction and refreshments. All proceeds will go to the Greensboro-based nonprofit charity dedicated to the rehabilitation, fostering and adoption of animals of all sizes.

Fans interested in helping Babe support Red Dog Farm at the “Dogs on the Catwalk” event can purchase tickets through Triad Stage by calling 336.272.0160 or by visiting www.reddogfarm.com.

The Grasshoppers have welcomed over 1,715,000 fans to NewBridge Bank Park, drawing over 400,000 fans in each of its first four years at the new downtown ballpark. The team is the proud recipient of both the South Atlantic League’s Club Merit Award and the General Manager of the Year Award for the past four years.
