ROANOKE, Va. – Rachael Phillips put away a match-high 14 kills on .314 hitting to lead top-seeded Washington and Lee University past number-eight Guilford College, 3-0, in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference Tournament quarterfinal match at Hollins University Friday. The Generals (29-6) advance to Saturday’s semifinal round to play the winner of Friday’s quarterfinal match between fourth-seeded Roanoke College and number-five Bridgewater College. Guilford ends its season with a 7-23 overall record.
Washington and Lee hit .290 as a team and won the match, 25-15, 25-15, 25-19. Kassie Bagley had eight kills in 10 attempts with no errors for a .800 hitting percentage. Senior Jessica Ulrich added nine putaways on .444 hitting and also contributed two blocks. Megan Steinhardt had 32 assists, plus nine digs.
Senior Shanika Tunnell and sophomore Courtney Kozar led the Quakers with seven kills apiece. Tunnell, who added a team-high two blocks, hit .308 in three games. Bethany Hawks contributed 14 digs and rookie Taylor Phillips had 15 assists. Sophomore Anna Miller added five kills and 12 digs. Miller also earned honorable mention All-ODAC laurels for the second straight season when the league’s all-conference awards were announced between quarterfinal matches.
