Wyndham Championship wins “Best Of” award at PGA TOUR Tournament Advisory Council Meetings

PGA TOUR event in Greensboro honored for Most Improved Event

The Wyndham Championship (Greensboro, N.C.) was honored by the PGA TOUR at the TOUR’s Tournament Advisory Council (TAC) Meetings this week. The Wyndham Championship earned the award for “Most Improved Event” for its seamless transition to Sedgefield Country Club.

Despite the challenges of moving to a new course, the Wyndham Championship put on a first-class presentation for players, spectators and sponsors. Players heaped praise on the Donald Ross-designed Sedgefield Country Club and spectators were treated to convenient parking, improved on-site experiences and enhanced fan viewing areas. The title sponsor exposure and product display at the Wyndham Championship was also cited as a top reason for the “Most Improved Event” award.

“On behalf of the PGA TOUR, I am pleased to acknowledge and congratulate the outstanding job and special recognition the Wyndham Championship has received for its efforts,” said PGA TOUR Commissioner Tim Finchem. “The Wyndham Championship is a great asset for the entire Piedmont Triad community and is a testament to the region being a great place to live and work. With the move to Sedgefield Country Club, sponsors and fans throughout the region showed great support for the tournament as both the third and final rounds of the tournament enjoyed sellout crowds. It is clear that the region has rallied around the Wyndham Championship, and that overwhelming support is part of the reason the Wyndham Championship is our Most Improved Event this year.”

“We are very pleased to accept this award,” Piedmont Triad Charitable Foundation Board chairman Bobby Long said. “Being named most improved event only increases our motivation to make the Wyndham Championship A + + at every level, and we have been able to make improvements in large part because of the support we have received from the people in our region. We are thrilled but remain intensely focused on making the Wyndham Championship even better for the Triad.”

The 2009 Wyndham Championship, captured this year by Carl Pettersson, will be held August 17-23 at Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, N.C.

“It is a real honor to be recognized by the PGA TOUR,” Tournament Director Mark Brazil said. “This award is reflective of a team effort from our sponsors, Board of Directors, executive committee, volunteers, staff and our many fans in the Piedmont Triad. I am especially pleased for Wyndham Worldwide and Sedgefield Country Club because we truly have an outstanding partnership with Wyndham and one of the best courses on TOUR.”
