Thursday night HS hoops and looking ahead to this evening

Joe got us started with the fine report on the Page Pirates’ upset of Mount Tabor on the road last night. Page is (3-0) and Mount Tabor stands at (4-1), was it an upset????? Are the Pirates ready to make some noise as the Pizza Hut Invitational draws nearer? What about a score on the Page girls game? Was there a girl’s game? Didn’t see a score this morning in the N&R….Can you imagine the Page boys’ inside game(with Julius Brooks and others), if Christian McCain would have stuck around?

We see where the Dudley boys took care of Smith 87-72 last night. PJ Hairston, Brandon Pennix, and Brendan Wyatt all double-digit scoring games for the Panthers. Freshman Reggie Dillard had nine points and Trey Goddette, a senior, had 8 points to give Dudley the big boost they needed to beat Smith. Dudley will host Word of God on Saturday night at 7:30 in the Panther gymnasium. WOG has John Wall, the nation’s top point guard, who is supposed to be headed to Kentucky and they also have C.J. Leslie who has a ticket to Sidney Lowe’s progam at N.C. State.

No score available on the Smith-Dudley girls game, if they played at all, the Panthers were in action the night before against Bishop McGuinness. *****Dudley girls, 83-43 over Smith.***** The Eastern Guilford Wildcats topped Cedar Ridge in girls action, 53-30. One of our area’s most promising players, Miranda Jenkins, led the Lady ‘Cats with 19 points. Amirah Jamison pumped in 11, Lashonda Anderson contributed 9 and Capricia Smalls returned to the ‘Cat lineup with 8 important points. The ‘Cats are now (2-1).

We don’t have any word on the Eastern Guilford boys and that seems to be a re-occuring theme today, girls game-no boys, boys game-no girls. The only question we may have early on the Dudley Panther boys, by our checking of the box score, may be how much depth do they have on the bench this season, and is it quality depth like they have had in previous seasons?(Who knows, they may not need it, we’ll wait and see.)

What do we have coming up for tonight??????

Here is the lineup;
Unbeaten High Point Central at unbeaten High Point Andrews

Grimsley-NO GAME, Football banquet on Sunday night…..

Western Guilford(4-0 boys led by Reggie Perkins, Jordan Williams and company) at Northwest Guilford

Page-OFF, after last night’s Big Win over Mount Tabor….Football Banquet on Sunday night…..

NEG-Set to host Eastern Guilford, but I believe this game will be re-scheduled because of the football game with NEG at Dudley…..

Southwest Guilford at Ragsdale(I believe both Ragsdale teams, girls and boys remain unbeaten)…..

Southeast Guilford at Southern Guilford-Coach William Whitaker and his young ladies from SG will have their hands full even though SEG will be missing Amy Beasley, out for the Falcons with the injured wrist. SEG still has Paris Alston and she is a load on the inside.

Greensboro Day at Cannon School-Don’t know much about this one on the way in, GDS boys undefeated at (8-0).

  1. I have been a Panther fan for many years and I must say your question is with merit. The bench for Dudley is weak. It will take stellar performances from the starters for Dudley to do as well as last year in the playoffs and in conference play.

  2. I don’t think it was that much of an upset, even though that Mt. Tabor has a lot of talent. CJ Harris committed to Wake Forest, Mike Grace commited to Yale, and Josh Hicks (getting alot of looks).
    Page has alot of good players too, Mitch Oates has to be one of the best PG’s in the area. Of course Julius Brooks.. but, the thing I like about this edition of Pirate Basketball is they play as a unit, there are no superstars on this team.

  3. The bench for Dudley boys is young and inexperienced; however, Coach Price is giving them as much exposure as possible by letting them play a significant amount of time in what could have been a substantial blowout against Smith last night. With the Starters, the point spread got as high as 28 points. As opposed to ballooning the point spread for the final score, he brought in all his bench players who did allow Smith to get as close as 12 points with 2 minutes left. I expect the bench will get stronger as the season progresses and they get more game time.

  4. I also hear the NEG girls got their first win over SWG the other nite. Any scores from that game?
