PJ, Trey, and Reggie help Dudley edge Nighthawks/Terry and Patterson pace Panthers run past NG

Early in the game at Dudley last night it was Brandon Pennix and Brennan Wyatt keeping the Panthers on course versus Northern Guilford, but late in the game, in the fourth and final quarter to be exact; PJ, Trey and Reggie stepped up and pushed the Panthers past the Nighthawks 61-60.

This was the game of the week, the game of the month and the game of year, all rolled into one. Dudley tops Northern by one at home and the game made a key turn right when Panther assistant coach Derrick Partee walked in the building. Partee says he is the good luck charm for the Panthers.

Good fortunes came Dudley’s way with that hot finish and the hard work down the stretch by PJ Hairston, Trey Godette, and Reggie Dillard. Hairston fought through foul trouble and an off-shooting night to step it up late. Godette hit a two pointer that rattled the rim about ten times and finally fell in and he hit a key free throw in the last minute that gave Dudley the one-point win. Reggie Dillard spread the floor and drove the lane and took his man to the basket and laid in 2-3 crucial buckets in the last minute and a-half of the game.

Brennan Wyatt was the Panthers’ man early in the ball game and he finished with 15 points. The “Big” Brandon Pennix hit for 14, while Hairston had 13, Dillard 9 and Godette added 5 and none bigger than that last free throw that won the game……

Excellent effort by the Panthers to preserve the win on their home court and to go (4-0 Conference and 11-1 overall). The NG Nighthawks are soooo close but the loss leaves them at (9-3/3-1). Christian McCain, who is becoming a pain in the lane for the opposition, had 12 for NG, while Jacob Lawson added 11, Asad Lamont and Michael Neal had 10 each, John McBeth had 7 and Jonathan Frye 6.

Northern is almost there, they played great and it shows. Nighthawks up 34-27 at the half and still in front 48-44 after three quarters….Northern went up by as many as 14 on Dudley in the second half. Northern is looking to finish and Dudley knows they still have to go to Northern later on in February. This series will make the season in the Triad 3-A Conference.

The Dudley girls were led by Helen Terry and Brianna Patterson in their 63-26 run past Northen Guilford. Helen pumped in 21 points and Brianna put in 12. Desiree Drayton added 9 as the Dudley girls move to (9-2/4-0). The Dudley girls do it with run, run, run and the defensive pressure is turned on as soon as they take the court for warmups…..

The team is tight when it comes to their “D” and Northern leaned that the hard way on Friday night. It was a 10-6 to 12-6 game with Dudley in the lead, and then you look up and it’s 32-6 with Dudley in charge. The question now is, “will Dudley be tested in the Triad 3-A this season?”

Samantha Coffer had 9 for Northern and again where will the comp come from for Dudley? NG, WG, NEG, WA, Morehead, Rockingham County maybe?????

The question on the Pizza Hut Invitational has been answered in part. Helen and PJ won the Free Throw shooting contest this year and could not take the gifts. The NCHSAA says if you take the prize then you lose your eligibility. Helen also won last year, but the NCHSAA says that since it has already been one year or over a year since that event took place, there is nothing they(the NCHSAA) can do about it and the prize does not effect anyone’s(Helen’s) eligibility.

Also last night it was a big night for the Eastern Guilford girls at Reidsville with the Wildcats 67-57 win over the Rams. Here’s how it stacked up for EG(6-9):

Camille Horne had 19 for the Lady Storm as they go to (2-0) in the conference for Coach William Whitaker. EG-SG waiting in the wings……

Westchester Academy hit High Point Christian with a 54-41 loss and HP Wesleyan rolled over North Raleigh Christian 85-47. Deuce Bello led Westchester with 15, Jermaine Martinez was the top man for High Point Christian with 13, James Robbins had 28 for Wesleyan and Jon Johnson added 17 for HPW.

We have put Martinez, Johnson, Bello and Robbins on our watch list.

  1. I agree with Coach Price, Dudley is a very young team that does not have alot of experience, but it looks like everyone is still playing for second place in that conference.
