Bishop now sends us their box score on every game, if you have one available, send it our way…..

The Grimsley girls made sure Page didn’t get a sweep in the doubleheader at Bob Sawyer Gym last night, when the Whirlies beat the Pirates 37-28. High Point Central’s girls grabbed a road win at Smith with a 54-47 victory over the Golden Eagles, but again no sweep as the home stading Eagles beat the Bison in the boys matchup, 58-49, to allow Smith to pick up only their second win of the season.

Northern got the sweep as the Nighthawk boys bested Morehead 76-47 and Northern’s girls came out on top over Morehead 65-28. We have the Dudley boys and their 63-40 win over Western Alamance, but we don’t have anything on how the Dudley girls came out, but we feel certain that they won again.

Eastern Guilford grabbed a pair from West Stokes with the EG Wildcat girls rolling 62-43 behind Miranda Jenkins 25 and Capricia Small’s 16 points. The EG boys picked up a ten-point win, 67-57 over West Stokes. Southern Guilford dropped two games to Reidsville with the Storm girls falling by around 20 and the SG boys by nearly as many to the Reidsville Rams. Eastern Guilford versus Southern Guilford next Friday night at UNCG.

More on the EG girls from last night:
Eastern Guilford defeated Conference foe West Stokes 62 -43 to raise their record to 4-0 in Coference play. Eastern played one of their better games in both halves and used great defense to secure the win. They were lead by Miranda Jenkins 25 points and 7 assists and Capricia Small 16 points and 11 rebounds.

Miranda Jenkins: 25 pts, 7 rebounds, 7 assists, 2 steals, 3 blocks
Capricia Small: 16 pts, 11 rebounds, 5 assists, 2 steals, 6 blocks
Amerijah Jamison: 5 pts, 7 rebounds, 3 assists, 4 steals, 2 blocks
Kristin Crosby: 4 pts, 7 rebounds, 1 steal
April Totten: 4 pts, 6 rebounds, 1 assist, 2 steals, 1 block
Alesha Henry: 4 pts, 3 rebounds
Shaequa Rush: 2 pts, 1 steal
Karima Jackson: 1 steal

Northeast Guilford split the doubleheader with Rockingham County as the NEG boys got their third win of the season 76-47 over RC, but the Ram girls got tripped up, losing 60-34. The Northwest Guilford girls ran off and left East Forsyth with NWG cruising to a 59-17 victory, but the Viking men got out-scored 11-8 in the second quarter and lost to EF 53-50….NWG played even with the Eagles with exception of that second quarter.

We have another split to report as the Western Guilford girls were big winners over Bartlett Yancey 71-35, but WG’s boys went down at the hands of the Buccaneers 66-60. The High Point Andrews boys pounded WS Carver 66-37 and the HPA girls made it a rare sweep, with a 43-40 win over the Yellowjackets.

We don’t have anything on the Southeast Guilford boys, but the Falcon girls are on the move after their 67-36 win over Eastern Randolph. Speaking of rolling, the Bishop McGuinness ladies won again 66-31 over East Wilkes. The High Point Christian Cougars boys team topped Caldwell Academy 62-53……

Teams off to strong start:
Metro 4-A
1) Page (11-5/3-0)
2) Northwest Guilford (9-8/2-1)
3) High Point Central (8-5/1-2)
4) Grimsley (11-5/1-2)
5) East Forsyth (8-7/1-2)
6) Smith (2-14/1-2)

The High Point Andrews boys are now (14-4/3-0), that (3-0) in the Piedmont Triad 3-A Conference is big….The Dudley boys are (14-1) overall and (7-0) in the Triad 3-A Conference. Northern Guilford is just one and a-half games back at (5-1) conference and (11-3) overall. The Ragsdale boys have still only lost one game (15-1) and have no conference losses in the Mid-Piedmont 3-A Conference.

On the girls side of things it looks like:
Metro 4-A
1) Northwest Guilford (3-0)
2) High Point Central (2-1)
3) Grimsley (1-2)
4) Page (1-2)
5) Smith (1-2)
6) East Forsyth (1-2)

The Southeast Guilford girls have started (5-0) Mid-Piedmont Conference and they are (11-3) overall….The Ragsdale girls are one game back having lost that one game to the Falcons. The Dudley girls are (12-2) overall and (7-0) in the Triad 3-A Conference.

The Eastern Guilford girls have gone to (4-0) in the North State 2-A Conference and they have Southern coming up next week, and EG must still face Reidsville one more time this season.

That’s a look at how the teams are starting to shape up here still early in January, but we are almost half way through the conference schedules….

  1. Rumor has it that Greensboro Day and Dudley are discussing dates to schedule a game this year. What has anyone heard on this? I think this would be great for basketball in the city of Greensboro. Any thoughts?

  2. Haven’t heard anything concrete, but would love to see it……Coliseum Special Events Center or start up a two-year home and home deal with the first game this year at Greensboro Day’s Dillard Atheltic Center and next year head over to Dudley.

A game such as this would only make both teams better in the long run….

  3. I agree. As I said before, I think it would be a great game for the basketball fans in the area. I would have to give the nod to GDS inside and to Dudley on the perimeter. I hope they make it happen.

  4. Bishop McGuiness boys are a joke…talk about a weak schedule. They played no one in non-conference and their conference is terrible. Their one loss was a beating to Grimsley who is average at best this season. They will pay for that weak schedule in the sectionals when they get a Thomasville or W-S Prep.

  5. I agree with everything you stated above, couldn’t have said it better myself. However, I believe that Bishop is better than the whirlies now.

  6. Right you are Drew…We have a load of the girls teams at (1-2) in the Metro 4-A and I believe Grimlsey split with EF winning the boys game 61-58 and EF won the girls game, like you said, 63-61.
