ECU Announces Thursday Night ESPN Game Against Virginia Tech, Remaining Non-Conference Schedule

GREENVILLE, N.C. – The 2009 meeting between East Carolina and Virginia Tech will be played Thursday, Nov. 5 at Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium in front of a national television audience on ESPN according to an announcement of the Pirates’ non-conference schedule made by ECU Director of Athletics Terry Holland Thursday.

The Pirates and Hokies, who are currently engaged in a nine-game series which began at Blacksburg in 2007 and continued with a meeting at Charlotte’s Bank of America Stadium last fall, will square off against each other in Greenville for the first time since 2000.

In addition to the matchup with Virginia Tech, East Carolina will also face Atlantic Coast Conference member North Carolina at Kenan Stadium in Chapel Hill Sept. 19.

The Pirates will open their season by welcoming three-time Football Championship Subdivision, formerly known as Division I-AA, national champion Appalachian State to Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium Sept. 5 while ESPN is currently working to televise a visit to Big East member West Virginia a week later Sept. 12.

East Carolina’s complete schedule, which also features league home games with Southern Miss, Rice, UAB and UCF, will be released by Conference USA later this month.
