First-round Conference Tournament Action

Southern Guilford 56, McMichael 27

Southern Guilford outscored McMichael 17-0 in the first quarter and the Storm went on to a lopsided victory. Southern will face Eastern Guilford in the semifinals Wednesday. Loyrissa Young pulled down a game-high 20 rebounds and Kamille Horne had the scoring honors with 19 points for Southern Guilford. Also, Nichelle Caudle step in and did an excellent job at point guard, replacing the injured Jasmine Davis.

Bishop jumped to a 6 point lead after the first quarter behind freshman matthew Paspy’s 3 three pointers. East Surry rallied back in the scond and third quarters to keep the game close throughout. In the third and fourth quarters Bishop rallied behind Ross Diachenko and Aaron Toomey who led a strong attacking defensive charge. Toomey and Diachenko combined for 27 second half points. Diachenko was 10 for 10 from the free throw line for the game to lead the Villains. Toomey had 15 of his 28 in the scond half. Bishop will face the winner of the Mt Airy- North Stokes game on Thursday in the tournament championship. Aaron Toomey 28 pts, 9 assists, 4 steals, 6 rebounds.

  1. Kudos to Coach Whitaker w/ his 1st year @ Southern. Their record does not reflect the hard work the team has put in this year. Good luck to them
