Twelve local hoopsters headed to Dave Telep’s Carolina Basketball Challenge

*****We have received word that Michael Neal, guard/Northern Guilford, has been added to the list of invitees.*****

CARY – Twelve Greensboro-area students have been invited to participate in Dave Telep’s Carolina Challenge, to be held Saturday, March 28 at Cary Academy.

In its third year, the Carolina Challenge has rapidly become the signature event for the state’s top players. Only the best freshmen, sophomores and juniors have been chosen for this invitation only, one-day academy that not only showcases the talent in the state, but also emphasizes what it means and takes to become a college basketball player.

Players will be divided into eight teams of 10 players each for scrimmages, and will also attend skill sessions conducted by Denny Kuiper, a former high school coach from the state of Michigan and an academic advisor for the Marquette University basketball program.

Last year more than 20 media members covered the event and the participants were showcased in front of multiple voters for the McDonald’s All-American team as well as other state and national awards.

  1. It is nice to see some of the best invited to such an event. It shows that tese young players looks like they have what it takes.

  2. This list could be alot better!@### Where is Michael Neal name????????? Dave Telep has do a better job next year. The list has some good players but also some players that should not have been invited.

  3. michael neal was added to the list..he is on the most recent list that came out this week..

  4. dudley stud
Just look at this list I want call any names but there is alot of talent not on this list. I know PAGE can have a player on the list, Andrews should have a couple of players on the list. Northern can have more players (the entire team), GDS can have another player and Grimsley should be represented with at least one player before some of these other players.

  5. Concern Fan

They are only inviting the best and have a specific number of players that fits the bill. Now unless you name whom should be subtracted , there is no need to add. Sorry, but the ones selected were the best.

  6. Com on, Dudley Stud… You have to be Kidding right? I’ve talked to a few coaches from this area and there were a few kids that should have been on the list, but one good thing about this is, it doesn’t all end with Dave Telep. Those that want be there for what ever reason will be ok if they truely got game and are solid in the books. Weather some people believe it or not, there is alot of politics that goes with such things and thats just the nature of such. I have been at the Challege in the past, and I can tell you this, there were serveral players there that were not as talented as some that weren’t not there. Some of those players didn’t get invites the next year. Mr. Telep himself has been quoted saying that he has made a few mistakes with some of his invites and omitting others in the past. Hey, nobodies perfect. I salute those that will be there and wish them the best and I tell that kid that’s not there to continue to work on his game and to stay in the books, and as for that kid who is more talented than that kid who was chosen, I tell him the same thing, continue to work on your game young man and stay in those books.
