UNCG OVER LAFAYETTE + COLLEGE ROUNDUP‏

UNCG 15 LAFAYETTE 8

Got to see UNCG play Lafayette, PA yesterday at UNCG. In the early going it was easy to see why UNCG has been struggling – they were so much the better team, yet after a botched routine double play ball was booted by the 2nd baseman in the top of the 3rd they found themselves down 8-3, it stayed that way till the 7th when UNCG finally played somewhat to there potential. Brent O’Berry (Ragsdale) was only 1-5 on the night but that hit was a big one, a double with the bases loaded that finally gave the Spartans a lead they would not relinquish. Michael Wall (N Forsyth) is swinging it well going 3-4 with two triples. UNCG also is led by pitcher Warren Slack (SW Guilford) who got a much needed win for the Spartans last week over ODU, he should be one of the UNCG’s best on the hill this year, along with Wes McBRide (W Forsyth) whose little brother Nick has pro scouts following him around this spring at Ragsdale. Tyler Vogler from MT Tabor also suits up for UNCG but he did not get in this game

COLLEGE ROUNDUP OF OUR LOCAL GUYS

Over at UNC – Ben Bunting (Randleman) is leading off and playing LF for the Tarheels. Ben is mashing it right now as he is hitting 420 with 1 HR. Dustin Ackley (N Forsyth) – it is only a story when he is not hitting 400, so no story here – he is cruising along at 431 with 5 HRs. Freshman Levi Michael (N Davidson) is a big story as he leads the team with 6 HRs and is hitting 324 while holding down second base. And big Greg Holt (W Forsyth) hit his first HR yesterday in the big win over Princeton.

Over at Wake Forest – Michael Dimock (Wesleyan) got the win on the mound over App St this week, going 6 2/3 inning while only allowing 1 run and getting 5ks. Zach White (N Davidson) is leading the Deacons on the mound with an ERA of .770 – pretty awesome for this freshman.

At LSU – Tyler Hanover (E Forsyth) has cracked the starting lineup at third base, he is hitting 2nd in the Tigers order and is 4th on the team in hitting with an avg of .326 with 2 hr’s – Tyler is making a name for himself in the SEC

At NC A & T – At dinner Saturday night Coach Shumate told me about his young team – and he is very happy with Blaine McCraw and Esterlin Paulino of SW Guilford – he says they are getting it done on the mound for the Aggies. He also mentioned that Grimsley’s Lester Rivenbark had to be pulled from behind plate – even though Coach Shumate said he is awesome back there – to shore up their defense at Shortstop.

Hopefully weather has calmed down and baseball will be off and running, We’ll will have reports from SW Guilford at NW Guilford.
