Pride tops Quakers at NewBridge Bank Park

Greensboro, NC — Tyler O’Neill and Clint DeHaven (Stephens City, Va/Sherando) had big days at the plate as Greensboro College defeated Guilford, 13-5, at NewBridge Bank Park on Monday night. The Pride also got a solid start form pitcher Greg Allen (Charlotte, NC/North Mecklenburg).

The Pride improved to 11-16 and Guilford dropped to 15-8-1.

O’Neill was 3-4 with a double and 4 RBI. DeHaven went 3-3 with a double, a home run and 2 RBI. Jacob Tomb (Arlington, VA//Washington-Lee ) and Bobby Amato (Cooper City, FL/Pembroke Pines ) had 2 hits apiece. Tomb also tied a program record with five stolen bases. Ryan Laboy (Los Angeles, CA/Central Cabarrus) knocked a home run and stole home plate for GC.

Greensboro trailed 1-0 but plated five runs in the third and fifth frames to pull away from Guilford. The Pride out- hit the Quakers 13-8.

Allen improved to 2-2 on the year. The senior appears to like the Grasshoppers stadium, started and pitched six innings. He allowed five runs and 8 hits. Allen shut the door and got the save in a 12-10 win over NCAA Division I Brown University as a freshman. He pitched a scoreless inning at NewBridge as a junior, too.

Alex Strarbuck went 2-3 with a run and an RBI for the Quakers. Zack Maltabano took the defeat and is now 1-1.

The Pride returns to USA South action this weekend. Seventeenth ranked CNU visits War Memorial Stadium on Saturday and Sunday.
