WG(7-1 Conference)

Joe Turkson hit a deep sacrifice fly to centerfield to score the Casey Jones with the winning run in the bottom of the 7th. Nin Marrero pitched six solid innings before Casey Jones came in the pitch the 7th and steal the win. Harrison Phillips pitched 5 innings with Brandon Wyrick pitching the 6th and 7th for the Rams.

Has there been a game this year that Macon has not had two hits, he did it again tonite, I did not think he had he greatest night defensively, but he had a big rbi double that scored Western’s first run of the night, and then he led off the 6th with a single and he eventually scored the go ahead run in the 6th. Casey Jones struggled a little at the plate but you can tell he is a big time D1 college player – very impressive sophomore, great team player, knows the game, team leader. Casey worked a leadoff walk and eventually scored the game winner in the 7th. Another Western player who has college potential is Joe Turkson, he hit the ball very hard all night, he has tremendous strength and foot speed, I hear he is a great football player – if he wants to make baseball a priority, I think he can play in college. Adam Causey – Westerns left fielder showed off his footspeed with two infield hits on the night.

For Northeast – Sophomore Harrison Phillips looked good on the mound as did Brandon Wyrick, Brandon was throwing well but a couple of errors and a booted double play ball cost the Rams in the end. Taylor Atkins was the DH for the Rams and he has been hitting over .500 all year with a couple of bombs, he had an Rbi for the Rams early on. Trey Johnson had two hits for Northeast and seemed to be seeing the ball real well at the plate. It was good to see Evan Underhill back healthy and playing baseball – hopefully his arm problems are behind him.

Northeast has some big time pitchers in Taylor Atkins, Zack Moore, Brandon Wyrick, and Harrison Phillips, I cannot figure out how they can be sitting at 1-6 in the conference – on the flip side Western seems to have a solid team with a bunch of great infielders that throw strikes and they are sitting atop the conference at 7-1 – pitching is not dominating in this conference. I would be scared to play Northeast and Dudley in this conference as they seem to be underachieving with the talent they have. Western Alamance also has some talent in Zach Mac and Anthony Hezar – this conference tourney will be fun to watch, I would think anyone could win – no clear cut favorites.

Head out to Southwest Guilford today at 4 pm to see Brock Hudgens go against Bennett Hixson?? of Ragsdale – last matchup was 1-0 win for Ragsdale Tigers
