*****All three of these area young men helped lead North Carolina over East Carolina this weekend, 10-1 on Saturday and 9-3 on Sunday to send our Tar Heels back to the College World Series in Omaha, Nebraska.*****
I am still hearing a good buzz in the community about the job Clint Moore and JP Polchinski did this year for the Black Knights of Army. It took a while to get the word out there, but once it hit, “Katy Bar the Door”, as uncle Woody used to say.
I ran into Seth Stone and Brent Ozment’s grandmother this morning and she is proud of those boys.
Ozment has grown from 6’4 to 6’7 and and is one of the mainstay pitchers for Ronnie Pugh’s Asheboro Legion baseball team. Brent has been going to GTCC after his career at Southern Guilford and he might be ready to head off to Catawba. At 6’7 he should be ready to write himself a pretty nice ticket to the next level.
Seth Stone is at Southeast Guilford and he is working hard in the off-season in hopes of starting at middle linebacker next year for the Falcon football team. Seth has increased his weight work and he is now squatting 600 pounds and wants to try and catch Coach Fritz Hessenthaler who maxed out squatting 750 pounds while he was playing football and working as the long-snapper for the University of North Carolina Tar Heels. Seth Stone is only in the 10th grade(huge Texas Longhorn and Mack Brown fan) and he is still a growing boy, so he should continue to increase his weight workouts as he gets older. If he gets much stronger, what’s the opposition gonna do?????
Our man Will Johnson was named the MVP for the Ferndale Middle School baseball team last week and Will will be moving on to Coach Ken Helms’ program at High Point Central next season. Will played six different positions(P, C, OF, SS, 2B, 3B) for Ferndale and his batting average was right at .495 for the season…….Good job Will and I know he learned it all down on the corner outside Culler’s Store on English Street in High Point and he attended many of Max Meeks’ and Frank Shaw’s summer baseball camps at Five Points.
