Greensboro College recruits almost an entire soccer team(15 Newbies)

Greensboro College women’s soccer coach Ian Spooner is pleased to announce the commitments of 15 recruits for the upcoming season.

“I’m very excited about our incoming players as it’s a large recruiting class which will serve as a foundation for the future,” Spooner said. “There are several players who I fully expect to make an immediate impact on our squad. We have a talented group of nine returners, so this team should put us in a great position to challenge for a conference title this season.”

Mary Reinhardt is a forward who played at Winston-Salem’s Mt.Tabor High School. She was all conference, all county and the team’s leading scorer the past two years. As a junior, Reinhardt was the Conference Player of the Year, all region and picked to the 4a All-State Team. She plays for the Greensboro Twisters Green and previously for the Winston-Salem Twins. Reinhardt will represent the West in the NCHSAA all star game later this month (July 21 at UNCG).

Midfielder/defender Brittany Crawford arrives via Winston Salem’s RJ Reynolds High School, where she lettered three seasons. She played club ball for the 91 Lady Twins White–a program which won eight championships in the past five years. Crawford was picked best defensive Player four times and was Selected to play in the TFC Friendlies All-Star Game last year.

Megan Nicole Roberts, from Maryvale Preparatory School in Cockeysville, MD, plays defense and midfield. A four-year varsity starter she was picked as a IAAM B Conference All Star every year. Roberts, who also played on the indoor soccer team, earned the coach’s award for dedication to the team as a sophomore and was the team MVP as a junior.

Midfielder Meredith Kelly prepped at Southern Alamance High School and hails from Snow Camp, NC. She played varsity soccer for four years under Coach Michael Park and was all conference, all region and the team MVP. An Academic All-Conference selection and member of the National Honor Society, Kelly was the school’s female athlete of the year. She played club soccer for the Burlington Soccer Club (coached by Tim Nash). She started on the basketball team for four years and played on the tennis team as a senior. Kelly also plans to play basketball for GC Head Coach Randy Tuggle.

Kayla Sutton is a midfielder from Fred T. Foard High School in Hickory, NC. She capped a stellar prep career by being named all-conference, all-region and team MVP this past season. Sutton was a four-time all conference pick and played for the CVYSA 90 Blast Blue. She also was an honors graduate, NC Scholar, a member of both the Beta Club and the AB Honor Roll.

Midfielder/forward Jessie Jameson arrives from Columbus, Ohio and Hilliard Davidson High School. The daughter of: Alan and Pam Jameson, she played for the Grove City Soccer Club. Jameson was her high school team’s offensive MVP as a junior and a second team OCC selection as a senior. Jameson was a scholar athlete all four years at Davidson HS.

Hannah Coats is a forward who played at Reagan High School in Pfafftown, NC. She was a four-year varsity performer and recorded 29 career goals. Coats was all conference as a freshman and senior. Her Raider team won the conference championship three times. Coats was a member of the Lady Twins Royals, which boasts nine consecutive trips to the State Cup Final four and four trips to that State Cup final. Her club won the State Cup in both 2006 and ’07.

Pride recruit Jess Kile hails from Salisbury, Md and played for Parkside High School. A defender, she was selected player of the year, first team all conference and and was tabbed to the all state team. Kile previously played for the ASA Illusion travel team.

Goalkeeper Shannon Hewitt is from Wellington, Florida and graduated from Palm Beach Central High School. She was a two-year player as a prep and saw soccer action at keeper and forward. A South Florida ODP representative, Hewitt was a member of the Wellington Wave and Palm Beach United FC soccer clubs. Additionally, she was a four-year varsity letter-winner and standout in lacrosse. An honor student, she plans to study psychology at GC.

Christian Gabrielle of South Point High School in Belmont NC is also a goalkeeper. She was selected first team Big South 3A. Gabrielle later earned all region honors in the nets. Defender Sarah Hopkins is from Greensboro, NC, where she was home schooled. She toiled for the Club team 92 Greensboro Twisters club program.

Forward Cara Wilcox is from Charlotte, NC and Mallard Creek High school. A forward, she is joined by her Mallard Creek teammate: defender Allie Czipo.

Rounding out the group of freshmen is Sam Beasley. The Christiansburg, Va. native attended Christiansburg High School where she played defense and midfield.

Missy Torzewski, from Glen Gardner, NJ, is Coach Spooner’s lone transfer. She arrives from Bloomfield College in New Jesery. Torzewski was a two-year letter-winner and was the team’s leading goal scorer in 2007.
