Greensboro College Baseball Announces Six More Recruits
Ken Carlyle, Greensboro College’s head baseball coach, announced commitments of six student-athletes. Today’s announcement ups the total of newcomers for Pride baseball to 12.
Dave Schilling is a right handed pitcher from Pennsbury, Pa. He played for Coach Steve Neilson at Pennsbury High School. Schilling stands 6’3, 180 and posted a 3-2 record. He tossed 23 innings, had 28 strikeouts and a 3.35 ERA. “Dave has a lot of potential & upside as a pitcher,” stated Carlyle. “We are looking for him to compete for a starting spot in the rotation.” Schilling chose GC over Chestnut Hill College.
A native of Hopewell Valley, NJ is Austin Catherina, a versatile infielder from Central High School. “Austin batted .316 and had 23 stolen bases in his career, said Carlyle. “He is a utility guy who we think can play about anywhere on the infield and should add to the depth of this team all around.”
Logan Beasley is a junior transfer from NCAA Division II Wingate University. A third-baseman and right-handed pitcher, he batted .246 with 16 RBIs and four stolen bases as a freshman. Beasley was a Bulldog teammate with current Pride players Michael Parker (Snow Camp, NC/Southern Alamance), Richard Allred (Snow Camp, NC/Southern Alamance) and Mike Manfro. “Logan has a smooth glove and should push for a starting third base spot right away. He may also give us some good quality innings out of the bullpen.” He attended Eastern Randolph High School, where he was a three-year varsity player and was MVP his senior year. Beasley considered Guilford and Lenoir Rhyne before settling on The Pride.
A recent graduate for Person High School (NC), Stephen Wright plays shortstop and second base. He was selected a Junior Marshall, Person County Scholar and is a National Technical Honor Society member. He played for Coach Evans and batted .387 with 17 runs and 11 RBI in his senior year. Wright also was named all conference. “Stephen is a very good athlete who will compete for a starting spot right away in the middle infield and could possibly log some innings in out of the bull pen,” Caryle said.
Daniel BurkeDaniel Burke is a freshman right-hander from Loudoun Valley (Va.) High School. He stands 6’2 and played prep ball for former GC two-sport athlete Mark Bauer (he’s an assistant at LVHS). Burke had three saves, 21 innings pitched, 22 strikeouts and an ERA of 1.38. “Daniel choose Greensboro College over UVA at Wise,” noted Carlyle. “We are excited to have Daniel join our family, Daniel will be used a s a set up man to closer Trever Marbry late in the games. He will give us a strong arm we can count on when the game is on the line.”
Also from Loudon Valley Hs is freshman TJ Daeschner. An outfielder and right-handed hurler, he hit .395 as a senior with four home runs and a slugging percentage .771. He choose Greensboro College over Alabama. “TJ can swing the bat and will compete for an OF spot plus a role out of the bull pen,” Carlyle said.
“I am thrilled to have these six young men join our family and we expect a total of 28 new recruits this year,” said Carlyle. “These newcomers will help us to that goal of winning the USA South Championship next year, and beyond…..”
