Greensboro College picked 8th in Poll at USA South Media Day

DANVILLE, Va.– The 2009 USA South Football Media Day was held on Monday, August 3rd at Averett University. First-year Greensboro College Head Coach Randy Hunt discussed his team’s prospects for the upcoming year.

Christopher Newport University was picked in the preseason coaches’ poll–which was revealed at media day. The Greensboro College Pride, coming off a 2-8 2008 campaign, was picked to finish 8th. The Captains claimed their first-ever outright USA South crown last fall to go along with its five previous shared Conference titles. CNU finished 2008 with an 8-2 overall record and a 7-0 mark in USA South play.

Christopher Newport received seven of eight first place votes (49 points) as head coaches do not vote for their own teams in the balloting. N.C. Wesleyan College, the 2007 USA South Champions, finished second in the balloting with 42 points and the remaining first-place vote. Ferrum College placed third in the poll with 38 points while Averett University was fourth with 26 points. The bottom half of the preseason poll featured Maryville College with 25 points, Shenandoah University with 23 points, Methodist University with 14 points and Greensboro College with seven points.

The 2009 USA South football schedule kicks-off on Saturday, September 5 as all eight teams begin their seasons with non-conference action.
