Dustin Ackley and Mariners agree on deal/Mitchell to Yankees

Great news for Dustin Ackley(North Forsyth HS and UNC-Chapel Hill)

from www.thaindian.com:

It seems that the Mariners has just made it i.e. to settle to an agreement with first round draft choice, Dustin Ackley.

According to sources, with just about 15 minutes to spare to meet the deadline, the Mariners settled on an agreement with Dustin Ackley in a five year, $9.5 million major league deal, thus putting him in the 40-man roster.

Sources reveal that if there had not been any sorts of agreement then the Seattle Mariners would have lost the rights to pitch in the star hitter from the University of North Carolina. The deal was finalized just at the last moment, precisely 15 minutes before the deadline. “We are happy to get this kid signed. We think this kid will be a bat in the middle of our line up to years to come,” Mariners general manager Jack Zduriencik said. “The key was Dustin’s desire to play. That was the key. It was a very nice package and met with a lot of their demands,” said the Seattle Mariner’s general manager in a conference hall.

“When we selected Dustin, we knew that he is a special player and a special person. We are excited for him to join our organization and can’t wait to see him in Mariner’s uniform,” said an overwhelmed Zduriencik. The general manager also said that Ackley, the star hitter will join the Seattle’s spring training complex in Peoria, Ariz., soon. Sources suggest that Ackley has to undergo a fitness test as the player is coming off from a ligament surgery.
