GUILFORD COLLEGE ADDS TWO TO ATHLETICS STAFF
Greensboro, N.C. — Guilford College Athletic Director Tom Palombo announced the addition to Zach Clark and Jennifer Perkins to the Quakers’ athletics staff Friday. Clark will serve as an assistant men’s lacrosse coach, while Perkins works as an assistant women’s soccer coach.
Clark comes to Guilford from Stevenson University where he spent 2009 as a defensive and recruiting assistant for coach Paul Cantabene’s Mustangs. Stevenson, formerly Villa Julie College, went 17-2 and was ranked first in the final 2009 United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association Coaches’ Poll.
The Mustangs produced six All-Americans last spring and made their first trip to the NCAA Division III semifinals.
A 2008 Stevenson graduate, Clark started four seasons on defense and captained the team as a senior. He won Stevenson’s Defensive Most Valuable Player Award as a junior and graduated with school records for games played and started. A dean’s list student, Clark earned his degree in paralegal studies. He starred scholastically at Chesapeake (Md.) High School where he was a four-year starter and an All-Anne Arundel County defender.
Head coach Andrew Rowe’s Quakers may return as many as 18 letter winners from last year’s 3-12 unit. Guilford is scheduled to open the 2010 season Feb. 20 versus Lees-McRae College.
Perkins joins coach Eric Lewis’ staff for her first college job after coaching youth soccer clubs and summer camps. She graduated from the University of North Carolina (UNC) at Chapel Hill with an economics degree in 2007. Perkins played in 33 career games over four seasons with the Tar Heels’ soccer team, during which time it won two NCAA Division I titles (2003, 2006). The Raleigh native starred at St. Mary’s High School and was named the 2003 national player of the year by Gatorade and the United States Soccer Coaches’ Association. She spent four years with the Region III Olympic Development Program (ODP) and six seasons on the state ODP team. Perkins played in the Greensboro Youth Soccer Association and was a member of the W-League’s Greensboro Twisters in 2003 and the Carolina Lady Dynamo in 2004.
The Quakers entertain Louisburg College in an Aug. 22 scrimmage before opening the regular season at Meredith College Sept. 1. Lewis returns 15 letter winners from last year’s 8-12 side.
