More from Moore County on the arrest of Jeff Hardy

from www.fayobserver.com:

CAMERON – A local wrestler who gained national fame in pro wrestling was arrested on a laundry list of drug charges Friday morning.

Jeff Hardy, a former WWE and TNA wrestler, was arrested at his home at 265 Boys Camp Road in Cameron on a long list of charges that included trafficking in prescription pills and possession of anabolic steroids, according to a news release from the Moore County Sheriff’s Office.

Hardy, who is 32, could not be reached for comment, but officials said Hardy was released from the Moore County Detention Center on bond. A post on Hardy’s Twitter account a little before 5 p.m. on Friday said: “Alot of exaggerations are out there today, don’t believe everything you read 4 it is not true, I am at home and fine-thanks for your concern.”

The arrest took place after lawmen searched the home, according to the release.

During the search, the release said, officers located and seized about 262 Vicodin prescription pills, 180 Soma prescription pills, 55 milliliters of anabolic steroids, a residual amount of powder cocaine and items of drug paraphernalia.

Soma is a noncontrolled prescription, the release said. Vicodin and anabolic steroids are schedule III controlled substances. The drugs’ street value was estimated at $2,500.

The search was conducted by the Moore County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Unit, Moore County Sheriff’s Office Select Enforcement Unit and the Fayetteville Police Department.

Chief Deputy Neil Godfry, with the Moore County Sheriff’s Office, said the Fayetteville Police Department received a tip a few days ago.

The subsequent investigation led to a search warrant, he said.

Hardy and his brother Matt, 34, have worked as professional wrestlers both together and separately for a number of years. As the Hardy Boyz, the natives of Cameron were six-time World Wrestling Entertainment world tag team champions.

This summer, Jeff Hardy won the WWE’s world heavyweight championship but lost the title a few weeks ago to a wrestler named C.M. Punk.

Matt Hardy has been sidelined from wrestling this summer while he recovers from abdominal surgery.

Jeff Hardy had been suspended from the WWE in the past for drug violations.

Hardy has said he has a wide range of interests, one of which includes singing in his band Peroxwhy?gen.

In previous interviews, Hardy has mentioned his close relationship with his father, who also lives in Cameron.

In an August 2000 article in the Fayetteville Observer, Hardy said:

“When I come home, I don’t want to talk about wrestling. I live and breathe it every day. I just want to talk about fishing, tobacco and building houses. Coming home helps me stay grounded. Sometimes I come back to Cameron just for a few hours in order to stay sane.”

Following today’s search, Hardy – whose full name is Jeffrey Nero Hardy – was charged with felony trafficking in opium, two counts of felony possession with intent to sell or deliver a schedule III controlled substance, felony maintaining a dwelling to keep controlled substance, felony possession of cocaine and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.

On his Twitter account, Hardy denied media reports that his brother, Matt, had bailed him out of jail or loaned him money for release.
