Guilford County Sports Hall of Fame To Be Held on Monday Night

The Fifth Annual Guilford County Sports Hall of Fame Induction Banquet will be held on Monday, September 21, 2009 at 7:00 pm at the Greensboro Coliseum. A welcome reception will begin at 6:00 pm. Inducted into this year’s class will be:
Nelson Bobb- Former Athletic Director at UNC Greensboro who led the Spartans from NCAA Division III to Division I
Dick Culler- Former Professional Baseball Player and standout baseball, basketball, and soccer player at High Point University
Johnny Evans- Former NFL and N.C. State football standout who played at High Point Andrews
Bill Hayes- The Winningest Football Coach at North Carolina A&T State University and current Athletic Director at Florida A&M University
Doug Henderson- Retired High School Football and Track Coach at Western Guilford
Haywood Jeffires- Former NFL and N.C. State football standout and MVP of the NCHSAA Basketball Championships for Page High School
Sammy Johnson- Former NFL and UNC football standout who played at High Point Central
Allen Morris- Former tennis star and tennis coach at UNC was a quarterfinalist at Wimbledon in 1956
Siri Mullinix- Former WUSA All-Star, Olympian, and National Champion soccer player at UNC who played high school soccer at Ragsdale

  1. no tripp welborne , what a joke.I will give them a pass this year for not nominating him but if Tripp doesn’t get in next year would be pathetic to see. You can overlook a 2 time all american,

  2. I agree Keith. Still the best HS player I’ve ever seen. 2 time all american at Michigan. Was such a good athlete that although he went on to play Football in college he was selected to play in EAST WEST all star basketball game.

  3. I agree tripp was a very talented athlete along wih a good guy. if this is really a guilford county hall of fame there is no way this guy shouldn`t be in. this is only my opinion, but without injury i think he would have been a high level player in the nfl.

  4. How about Baseball Coach Jim Morris of the Miami Hurricanes. He is from GSO Smith and Elon. How many national titles has he won?

  5. just a note, in that I did nominate Tripp Welborne this past year for the Guilford County Sports Hall of Fame and hopefully he will get in next year .
