While visiting the Sanford Herald, Click Here today, I also found this football piece on Pittsboro Northwood and was looking and thinking that maybe this Chargers team with Shane Peppers could give the Reidsville Rams a run for their money in the 2-A’s this year…….
Here’s the word on Mr. Peppers and what he did last Friday night:
PITTSBORO — Northwood’s Shane Peppers was looking to make a statement.
After Friday night’s game where the Chargers defeated Carrboro 62-34, it seems that Peppers’ point was made.
The senior rushed for a school record of 414 yards on 28 carries and had seven touchdowns. He broke for Northwood standout Tobias Palmer’s school record for most yardage in a game. In 2003, Palmer rushed for 349 yards against Burlington Cummings. Peppers’ seven touchdowns also surpassed Palmer’s and former tailback Demetrius Johnson, who each tied the school record for most touchdowns in a single game with five.
Peppers’ big night helped the Chargers improve to 9-0 on the season and 2-0 in the 1A/2A Carolina 9 Conference. He had touchdown runs of 55, 4, 63, 74, 51, 1 and 40-yards in Friday’s big win. Quarterback Sam Griffin had a rushing touchdown and also found wide receiver Ridge Smith for a 60-yard touchdown pass to round out the scoring for the Chargers.
Peppers wanted to send a message to the rest of the conference that the unbeaten Chargers are the real deal.
“I wanted to let everyone know that I’m in it to win it,†said Peppers. “As a senior, I won’t get another opportunity at going undefeated again, so I need to take advantage of it while I can. I’m coming off a pretty rough season last season, so I want to do everything it takes to help this team win.â€
It will take more than one player to beat Reidsville!
