SPARTANBURG, S.C. â€“UNC Greensboro forward Thomas Campbell was named the
Southern Conference Menâ€™s Soccer Player of the Week on Tuesday for his outstanding play in last Saturdayâ€™s win over Gardner-Webb.
Campbell, a redshirt senior, helped UNC Greensboro snap a three-game losing skid with a five-point effort in a 3-1 win over Gardner-Webb. He assisted on Matt Foxxâ€™s goal in the eighth minute to give the Spartans a 1-0 lead over the Bulldogs. The Middletown , N.J. , native tallied a goal of his own just two minutes later to give UNCG a 2-0 lead. After Gardner-Webb had trimmed the lead to 2-1 midway through the second half, Campbell scored in the 87th minute to ice the win for the Spartans.
It is the second time in Campbellâ€™s career that he has earned Player of the Week honors, having being named to the honor in October 2007.
It was Campbellâ€™s second two-goal game this season and the sixth multiple-goal game of his career. With five points in Saturdayâ€™s game, Campbell is now tied for eighth place in the league with 12 points. His five goals rank tied for fifth in the league.
The Spartans (4-7-3, 1-1-1 SoCon) return to action Saturday, October 24 when they host Georgia Southern at 7:00 p.m.
