Grimsley over Page 3-0 in Volleyball

Grimsley got the sweep over Page tonight at the Bob Sawyer Gym with the Whirlies making quick work of the match, again taking it three-games-to-none, over the Pirates.
Grimsley:
25-19
25-19
25-20….
Grimsley(18-4) Page(15-7) overall records……

The action got under way at 7pm and it was finishing up at right around 8:20 as I was rolling in there after a stop over by the Dudley football practice field.

The two teams split during the regular season and now Grimsley wins the Metro 4-A Conference Championship with the victory this evening.

More details coming later and I’m sure you will be able to get a full re-cap in tomorrow morning’s News and Record at www.news-record.com.

  1. Page didn’t have one of their better match. They gave up 20 points on serve receive errors (service aces for Grimsley) and service errors. 10 of those points came in the first set after Page came out to a roaring 5-0 start. The majority of those points came on receiving errors.

Chandler Bryant had an off night, especially late in the match. Didn’t help that the Grimsley blockers could read a lot of the passes to her in that third set.

Give credit to Grimsley…they passed the ball real well. Even with Page’s aggressive serving, Grimsley went from back row to front row in two passes and most of the time, their ball control was solid. In their last meeting, Grimsley had issues going from deep back row to front row. They corrected that and it showed.

Still a good year for Page. Their season isn’t done yet.

  2. Does anyone have those scores? We can probably go look them up, but was wondering if anyone had them handy on the three games???

Got it and it was Whirlies:
    25-19
    25-19
    25-20…..

  3. Anybody know if NWG is still alive in their conference tournament? Cant seemt o locate results in N&R or HPE. Could be my poor eyes.

  4. NWG was 21-2. Most recent news from the Northwest Observer at http://www.nwobserver.com:

    Volleyball

On Oct. 6, the Vikings lost to the Ragsdale Tigers in five games. Northwest’s leading offensive and defensive players were both unable to play while suffering from the flu. Casey Wells finished with 15 kills and 11 blocks, and MacKenzie Simpson led the defense. The Vikings played again on Oct. 8 at home and defeated the Parkland Mustangs in three straight games. Simpson again was the top defensive player with having seven aces and 22 service points total. On Oct. 10, Northwest traveled to Charlotte to play a tri-match against the Watauga Pioneers and the Providence Panthers, two of the best teams in North Carolina. The Vikings beat Watauga in four games. Northwest also defeated Providence in five games. Dana Sandknop put up a total of 43 assists for the Vikings, who are now 21-2 overall.

  5. Northwest Guilford 3-0 over Ragsdale to take the conference championship and now the NWG Vikings are (29-4)…….Ragsdale at (18-6).

NWG claims the Piedmont Triad 4-A Tournament with the win over the Tigers:
    25-14
    25-14
    25-22…….

  6. The addition of that transfer (on her way to Georgia I believe) has made NWG a very solid team. Good roll players, some size, solid D! Might have to go check out a State match or two.

    Thanks for the update Andy
