GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNC Greensboro men’s basketball coach Mike Dement
announced Wednesday that freshman forward Taylor Hoffer will miss the
2009-10 season due to a leg injury that will require surgery.
Hoffer suffered the injury in the closing moments of Monday night’s
practice at the Greensboro Coliseum. After further examination on Tuesday,
it was determined that he would need surgery that will require him to miss
the season. That surgery is slated for later this week.
“It is unfortunate that Taylor will have to miss the season due to this
injury,†said Dement. “He was off to a good start with us thus far and I
think he would have been able to contribute for us. However, I know he’s
going to work hard to rejoin us once he can get back on his feet and start
his rehab process.â€
Hoffer was the last of four signees for the Spartans entering this season.
A 6-7, 215-pound forward who played his high school ball at North Kitsap
HS, Hoffer was ranked among the Top 30 players in the state of Washington
last season. He earned all-league honors the last two seasons and a spot in
last spring’s Class 3A / 4A All-State Game. He averaged 15.7 points and 14
rebounds per contest this past season for North Kitsap, leading them to an
18-7 mark.
UNCG will open the season Nov. 13 at Duke. Game time is set for 7 p.m. and
the contest will be televised by FSN-South.
